Research Interests

My current research focuses on investigating different petrophysical models used to evaluate gas in place in shale gas formations, and will include analysis of the uncertainties inherent in these models.

Research carried out during my role in the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) integrates downhole logging and petrophysical analyses with various other analyses (e.g. geochemical) as required to further geological understanding (see Publications). Most research has focussed on the New Jersey Shallow Shelf (Exp 313) and Tahiti Sea Level Change (Exp 310) expeditions. Ongoing IODP-related research applies cluster analysis and other statistical techniques to downhole logs and petrophysical data from a variety of ocean drilling expeditions. My PhD research also integrated a combination of datasets (palaeomagnetic, rock magnetic and structural analyses) to interpret results in their wider context.
