Dr Sergio Vinciguerra

Dr Vinciguerra gained a PhD (University of Catania/INGV Rome, Italy) 1999. This was followed by post-doctoral research at University College London and Massachussets Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA as well as several years as a research scientist and senior lecturer in several Italian institutions (University of Catania, INGV Naples and Rome, University of Turin).

Sergio's main research interests are in the closely related areas of Petrophysics, Rock Mechanics, Seismotectonics and Volcano Seismology.  His work involves developing laboratory experiments in order to better understand the deformation, transport and failure processes that are observed in the field. In a joint development with the British Geological Survey, Sergio will also be the Head of Rock Physics at the British Geological Survey in Keyworth and will develop an experimentally based research programme on thermo-hydro-mechanical processes in rocks.
