Tim Owen is an honorary archivist at the Bullard Laboratories, Department of Earth Sciences, University of Cambridge.  Together with Mel Mason, both were pivotal in the development of marine seismic equipment from the mid 1960s until the lab ceased to be actively involved in instrument development around 2000.  Between them they took part in almost all of the many cruises undertaken by the department and in all of the seismic equipment development.   Before that their origins are best lost in the mists of time
