Michael Thompson is Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado. Formerly he was Director of NCAR’s High Altitude Observatory, where he remains a senior scientist. He is also a professor at the University of Sheffield, and his previous academic positions include being Head of the School of Mathematics and Statistics in Sheffield, Professor of Physics at Imperial College, and Reader at QMUL. His research interests are in helioseismology, asteroseismology, solar physics, stellar structure and evolution, and inverse problems.
