Dr. Roger Musson, British Geological Survey, Edinburgh

Roger Musson studied at Queen’s University Belfast (BSc) and Edinburgh (PhD). In 1980 he joined the Institute of Geological Sciences, shortly to be renamed the British Geological Survey (BGS), and from the late 1980s held the post of Head of Seismic Hazard and Archives, until his retirement in 2014. He now works as an independent consultant, but still holds an honorary position at BGS. His interests besides seismic hazard, on which he is internationally recognised as an expert, include macroseismology, historical earthquakes, and the history of seismology. His publications include “The Million Death Earthquake”, a popular introduction to seismology.
