Patrick joined the first intake of Professor Aftab Khan and Peter Maguire’s BSc Geology with Geophysics course at Leicester University in 1975. His published final year research project, a relative P-wave delay study between Eskdalemuir and Charnwood Forest, ignited a passion for seismology which he satisfied by investigating a volcanic hot spot in Darfur, Sudan to earn his PhD under Derek Fairhead and Graham Stuart at Leeds University. In 1984 Patrick joined Shell where he practiced seismology in The Netherlands, Indonesia and Oman. Following a successful series of leadership roles in British Gas/BG Group, Patrick returned to Shell to teach Geophysics before progressing to his current role of Exploration Chief Geophysicist in 2013. Patrick is also Global Head of the community of practising seismic interpreters in Shell.
