Dr Caroline Upton has been invited to speak at a key international conference in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (22-23rd October 2009).

The conference ‘Climate Change and Adaptive Capacity Development: Combating Desertification and Sustainable Grassland Management in Gobi Region, Mongolia’ brings together invited government policy makers, international donors and academics to discuss the future of Mongolia’s pastoral sector, with particular reference to climate change and its impacts. Dr Upton’s paper will analyse the social and institutional contexts of adaptive capacity for herders in the Gobi region. The meeting outcomes will contribute to national policy development and the design of donor-supported projects in the future.
