Guardian League Table

The survey is based on teaching quality. Leicester followed Cambridge, Oxford, Bristol, St Andrews, UCL, Edinburgh and Durham. Amongst these 8 best Geography Departments in the table, Leicester received the best score for providing feedback to our students.

Prof. Heiko Balzter, Head of Department, said

The Guardian University Guide 2010 confirms Leicester's position as a top-ten Geography Department when it comes to student satisfaction and the quality of teaching. I am particularly proud that our students rated the quality of our feedback on coursework and exams best within our peer group of the best 8 Geography Departments. Feedback is critical to enable students to improve the quality of their work.

This success follows last week’s Good University Guide, published in The Independent, which placed the University of Leicester in the top 20 institutions nationally.

Geography Admissions Officer, Dr. Kevin Tansey, explains why Leicester is great place to study Geography.
“Studying Geography at Leicester offers unrivalled opportunities for you to study abroad, undertake field work in exciting places such as Kenya, Death Valley in California and the Amazon Rain Forest, and take the first steps to the career in Geography that you want. Our students are some of the most satisfied in the country. The past two National Student Surveys (based on feedback from current third year undergraduates) placed Leicester 1st in 2006 and consistently in the top ten since then. This is because all our academic staff directly teach undergraduate students and share their enthusiasm for their areas of expertise in an accessible manner.”
