The Geography Department has once again been rewarded for its excellent efforts in undergraduate teaching and learning by its ranking in the 2007 National Student Satisfaction (NSS) Survey.

Figures show that Physical Geography is ranked joint 8th and Human Geography ranked joint 5th based on the mean average satisfaction score. This follows on from the successes of the 2006 NSS survey, in which we were ranked 1st.

Digging more deeply into the numbers, Physical Geography is ranked 3rd in the assessment and feedback category, joint 3rd in academic support and 1st in personal development. Human Geography is ranked above average in teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, and learning resources categories. Our Department had the largest response rate. Over 90% of our third year students completed the questionnaire, some Institutions managed just above 50%. We believe it is important that most if not all of our students have a say.

The National Student Satisfaction Survey is an annual survey on third year undergraduate students. It is the cornerstone of the UK's independent quality assurance framework and is designed to inform prospective students about what and where to study.
