We are pleased to announce the launch of the UK's first inter-disciplinary Lidar (Light Detection and Ranging) remote sensing research unit.

The Leicester Lidar Research Unit (LLRU) is working towards the development of techniques, methods and applications of Lidar remote sensing and image interpretation. LLRU was created on the back of successful projects on earthquake fault mapping in Slovenia and urban modelling. LLRU includes members from academia (British Geological Survey, University of Ljubljana in Slovenia), government (Natural Environment Research Council, Environmental Agency of the Republic of Slovenia), commerce and industry (Ordnance Survey, Infoterra Ltd.) who provide financial, logistical or data support. The Unit will contribute to the activities of the Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society (RSPSoc) Lidar special interest group. Dr. Kevin Tansey, Director of LLRU said, 'By bringing together data providers, user groups and scientists from a range of disciplines, we aim to further develop techniques and applications of Lidar remote sensing'. For more information, please consult the unit's web page.
