Our equipment and infrastructure

As well as standard laboratory equipment our facilities (located in the Adrian Building) include:

  • Verogen MiSeq FGx Forensic Genomics system, hosted by the NUCLEUS Genomics service
  • IonTorrent PGM system for next-generation sequencing
  • ONT MinION devices for third-generation sequencing
  • ABI 3500xL 24-capillary electrophoresis platform for DNA fragment analysis, purchased 2019 via the University of Leicester Research Infrastructure Fund
  • ABI 3130xL 16-capillary electrophoresis apparatus including 6-colour upgrade
  • ABI 7900HT Quantitative RT-PCR machine, hosted by the NUCLEUS Genomics service
  • ABI Veriti, G-Storm and MJR-Tetrad PCR machines
  • Agilent Bioanalyzer for DNA quantitation
  • QIAcube automated robot for DNA extraction
  • Access to the University’s ALICE High-Performance Computing cluster
