Biography

After graduating with a BSc Hons in Medical Microbiology from the University of Edinburgh, I worked at the Centre for Infectious Diseases at the University of Edinburgh on the Epstein–Barr virus before embarking on PhD on the cellular biology of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) at the MRC Virology Unit at the University of Glasgow. Upon completion of my doctorate I continued working on HCV as a research fellow at the University of Leeds.

I worked as sessional lecturer in Biological Sciences at Nottingham Trent University 2009/10 and joined the Genetic Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (GENIE) at the University of Leicester February 2010. I started working for the Centre for Interdisciplinary Science on the Natural Sciences programme in May 2010. In addition to teaching in Natural Sciences and Biological Sciences  I have worked on a number of educational projects (details below).

I initiated the Research Theme of Teaching and Learning to the College of Science and Engineering in November 2014 and became Director of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Science in June 2015. In 2017 I was appointed as Programme Director of the new Natural Sciences (Life and Physical Sciences) programme.
