Established in 1986 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first publication of The Pickwick Papers, Dickens Day is a prestigious academic tradition, bringing together foremost Dickens scholars, students and enthusiasts in a celebration of all things Dickensian.

The event is now jointly run by the University of Leicester, Birkbeck College, University of London and the Dickens Fellowship.

Papers from Dickens Day 2009 'Dickens and Science' are now part of a special issue of 19: Interdisciplinary Studies in the Long Nineteenth Century co-edited by event organizers Dr Holly Furneaux and Dr Ben Winyard.

Dickens Day sponsored a postgraduate workshop on 'Dickens, Journalism, Forms of Publishing' on 8 July 2011.
