We are pleased to announce that Honorary Creative Writing Fellow, Jean 'Binta' Breeze, has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her services to literature. Jean has released the following official statement: "I am delighted to be honoured in this way by the Queen despite our history of empire. I recognise her as a great matriarch doing her best to keep family together much as my mother does in a more humble way. I would like to thank the UK for the opportunity it has provided me to serve internationally without having to forget my homeland." Jean 'Binta' Breeze, June 2012.

John Siddique's poem 'Making It Up', from Don't Wear It On Your Head (Salt) will appear in The Independent on 14 July, as part of a selection of inspirational poems for the Olympics. The poems have been specially chosen by the Forward Foundation/Winning Words.

Meanwhile, BBC Radio 4's ‘With Greatest Pleasure’, featuring Cerys Matthews, will be broadcast 16 July at 4pm. John was Cerys' special guest performing 'Thirst' from 'Full Blood' in front of a live audience in Bristol with accompaniment from the brilliant cellist Julia Kent (Anthony & The Johnsons, Solo, etc). A longer edition of the show will be broadcast later in the year, which will also feature 'A Place Of Silence', again with Julia on cello.
