Lucky Jim

Tim Youd is a LA based artist, currently engaged in a multi-year cycle of retyping 100 novels. Youd retypes the works on one sheet of paper run repeatedly through a typewriter of the same model used to write the original work, in a location related to the novel. For this project Youd was inspired by Kinsley Amis' visit to Philip Larkin, then an assistant librarian at the University of Leicester. It was this visit that sparked the idea to write Lucky Jim, Amis' classic comic novel about a young lecturer at a Midlands red-brick university.
