Booker Prize-winning author Dame Penelope Lively was born in Cairo and spent much of her childhood there. She read Modern History at Oxford. As well as the Booker Prize (for her novel Moon Tiger), she has won the Whitbread Award, Carnegie Medal, Southern Arts Literature Prize, been shortlisted twice more for the Booker, and is a regular reviewer for national newspapers and magazines. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, she was awarded the OBE in 1989, CBE in 2002, and DBE in 2012. She holds honorary doctorates from Tufts University and Warwick.

Tonight she will be discussing themes in recent memoir, Ammonites & Leaping Fish, described as ‘not a memoir exactly, but rather "the view from old age", Penelope Lively's "life in time" is a reader's pure delight.’ (Independent on Sunday)
