As part of Leicester's Everybody's Reading festival, discover Leicester’s past through a guided walk which commemorates two of the city’s most famous women writers: Susanna Watts (1786-1842), author of the first guidebook to Leicester, and her friend, the abolitionist campaigner Elizabeth Heyrick (1769-1831). These remarkable campaigners and writers shaped Leicester as we know it, and the walk will take in places important to them as they fought for animal and human rights. It will also give a flavour of Watts’ personal, affectionate guide to Leicester.
