Dr Jian Chen

We have learnt, with great regret, of the death of Dr Jian Chen on the 7th of July

Dr Jian Chen was an exemplary early career academic in vibration and acoustics and the academic lead for a new vibration and dynamics laboratory in Engineering. Jian got his degrees from Sichuan university and had worked with a number of high profile scientists in the UK, Belgium and Australia. He gained the respect of everyone with whom he worked due to his deep technical knowledge and his passion to transfer this to others. He was also held in considerable regard by his national and international external collaborators, both in academia and industry. He had a very endearing personality and was much more than an advisor to his students, regularly serving as their confidant and friend.  His untimely death will leave a massive gap in the Department but his memory will live on in everyone who has known him and we plan to establish a Dr Jian Chen prize to benefit annually the best project student working in acoustics or vibration.

Dr Jian Chen joined the University of Leicester as a Lecturer in March 2018.
