Professor Sarah Hainsworth

Professor Sarah Hainsworth has 20 years of experience in the field of materials engineering. Her research interests fall into four main areas: automotive tribology, microstructural evolution in power plant materials, materials characterisation and forensic engineering.

She has 10 years of experience in forensic engineering relating to materials failure investigations, and in forensic science related to stabbing and dismemberment. Sarah has provided forensic engineering reports on knife sharpness to a wide number of police forces including Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, South Wales and Lothian Borders.

Sarah has published papers on knife sharpness and identification of tool marks on bone:

She has provided expertise in cases involving dismemberment. She has also provided expert reports on falls from height.

Sarah has given invited talks to the Forensic Science Services and British Association of Forensic Medicine on her research and is a member of the editorial board for the International Journal of Forensic Engineering.
