Master of Education

We are very pleased to announce that our newly developed Master of Education programme will be opening for the first cohort of students in October 2018.

Specially designed to appeal to qualified teachers and developed in consultation with our regional schools and PGCE alumni, this course will enable you to:

  • Enhance your career progression and make a real difference in your workplace by developing your ability to design and carry out small-scale research projects;
  • Engage in high quality, research informed postgraduate professional development and network with like-minded colleagues;
  • Develop your ability to critically examine your pedagogic practice and expertise in teaching or leading teaching which in turn will impact on your own students and colleagues

The programme will provide opportunities for part-time study through face-to-face sessions in weekday sessions in twilight hours and on some Saturday mornings, and through Blackboard, our virtual learning environment. Students will be well supported to develop their critical thinking and approach to research enquiry by an experienced, highly skilled Master of Education team who are very familiar with the challenges of part-time study and are themselves actively engaged in research on many aspects of Teacher Education.

The course will also provide a solid grounding in practitioner research for all those who enrol. This aspect will prepare them for researching and writing a dissertation on a topic of their choice relevant to the educational context in which they work.

Those graduates with a PGCE who have graduated with 60 credits will also be able to complete their Masters in two years. Those with 30 credits or no Masters credits will take the three-year programme.
