Sheila joined the School of Education at Leicester in August 2015 as postgraduate tutor on the English strand of the Secondary PGCE course. This follows 20 years in secondary education as English teacher, Advanced Skills Teacher, Specialist Leader of Education and senior leader for Continued Professional Development.

In her leadership roles, Sheila was actively involved in developing new teachers and providing teaching and learning training opportunities to develop all staff. She has much experience of working with a range of HEIs in the traditional routes to teaching. Building on her experience of designing and developing teacher training programmes, Sheila has worked collaboratively with stakeholders to devise the School Direct Secondary PGCE training programme for a regional Teaching School Alliance.

Sheila’s research interests include English, Assessment for Learning, ITT, CPD, Coaching and Mentoring and Leadership. The focus of Sheila’s Masters was on the implementation of a formative whole-school assessment approach to the marking of students’ written responses at GCSE and A Level to enhance students’ progress.

Sheila also has responsibility for NQT and RQT programmes for a regional Teaching School Alliance, as well as leading the NQT Appropriate Body for secondary schools.
