Personal Details

Laura graduated with a starred first in Education Studies and English from Homerton College, Cambridge. She subsequently completed an MSc in Educational Research at the University of Edinburgh before joining the Teach First programme in 2010. After teaching English in two West Midlands secondary schools, Laura returned to full-time education to complete doctoral research into the career histories and professional aspirations of women deputy head teachers. A copy of her PhD thesis can be found here. Laura was awarded the BELMAS doctoral thesis award 2018.

Laura joined the School of Education as a lecturer in September 2017. She teaches on the following programmes:

  • MA International Education
  • MSc Educational Leadership

Laura is involved in the second and co-supervision of doctoral students. She is also an Editorial Board member for the journal Management in Education.

Research Interests and Current Projects

Laura’s research interests include women teachers' lives and careers, educational leadership, qualitative and creative research methods, and teachers’ aspirations.

'Millennial Leaders: A Systematic Review' (2018 - )

Working with Sergio Galdames (UCL Institute of Education), Laura is exploring the existing literature surrounding millennial leaders. This work will act as a springboard for future research in this area.

Case for Support: The Lived Experiences of Pregnant Undergraduate Students: Implications for Higher Education Institutions (2019 -)

This qualitative study aims to explore the lived experiences and support needs of pregnant undergraduate students in British Higher Education (HE). It seeks to investigate the issues pregnant students face while engaged in academic study.
