Keith joined the School of Education as a full-time lecturer in August 2020. He previously taught in a range of primary schools across the East Midlands. From 2010, Keith was Deputy Headteacher of a primary school in North West Leicestershire and from 2017 was Headteacher. During this time, the school was awarded a DfE award for Character Education and a Gold Award for Mental Health and Wellbeing from the Carnegie School of Education at Leeds Becket University.
Keith was designated as a Specialist in Education for Maths in 2012 giving opportunities to support schools and teaching staff to develop their maths pedagogy. He continues to work with East Midlands South Maths Hub based in Leicester, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire to support the professional development of NQTs, recently qualified teachers and maths leaders / champions.
Responsibilities in the School of Education include:
• PGCE Primary Tutor
• Primary SCITT Lead Tutor
Teaching
Keith teaches on the PGCE Primary Core. This includes a range of different areas of the curriculum including Maths, Science and the professional strand. He also supports the Primary SCITT providers with the academic strand of the PGCE.
Research Interests
Keith is looking forward to developing his academic studies within this role. He is passionate about how partnerships between schools, academy trusts, local authorities and ITE providers can contribute to a self-improving system to increase the benefits on ITE trainees and Early Career Teachers.
He also has an interest in researching how children learn and the way in which the curriculum can improve outcomes for disadvantaged pupils.
