Jon joined the School of Education in 2010, covering as Deputy Director of the Science Learning Centre East Midlands before taking up his current post in 2011. He previously taught Science in a variety of settings across the West Midlands including Grammar, Comprehensive and Hospital Special schools, and with a range of subject, pastoral and senior leadership responsibilities.

Jon's interest in Science and Science Education is maintained through activity as a Chartered Biologist and Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (CBiol FRSB), a Chartered Science Teacher (CSciTeach) and a Fellow of the Linnean Society. He is an Editorial Associate for the Association for Science Education’s School Science Review and is a member of the editorial board for Science Teacher Education. He currently coordinates the Midlands Consortium for Science Initial Teacher Education Tutors in Higher Education and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Responsibilities in the School of Education include:

  • Plagiarism officer
  • Department Radiation Protection Officer




Jon teaches on the PGCE Secondary Professional Studies and Science courses, and contributes to teaching and supervision on Masters and Doctoral programmes.

He also teaches on the 'Introduction to Physics in Education' module in the BSc Physics course.
