I joined the University in October 2010 as a Teaching Fellow in Applied Linguistics. I have been working in English language teaching since 1992 and I have taught a variety of learner profiles in Greece, Italy and in the UK. I also have considerable management experience in ELT and I have worked as an inspector for the Evaluation & Accreditation of Quality in Language Services (EAQUALS).

I obtained my PhD from the University of Bristol in 2010. My thesis explores key aspects of the classroom use of the European Language Portfolio (ELP) in two European settings. I am the current section coordinator for the Applied Linguistics and TESOL MA programmes.

My main research interests are in the areas of second language teacher education and language awareness. I am currently involved in a research project with Dr Agneta Svalberg which aims to explore the effects of a discovery oriented approach on the engagement with language of adult foreign language learners.

Previous research projects include:

  • Trinity College London Certificate in TESOL Impact Study (2011)
    Under the project leadership of Dr Richard Kiely, this research study explored impact in terms of teacher learning on the TCL Certificate in TESOL course, and its effectiveness as a preparation for work in the TESOL field.
  • Socialisation and Identity in Learning in Applied Linguistics (SAIL) (2008)
    Report to the Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies (LLAS) Learning and Teaching Support Network (LTSN) HEA/University of Southampton
    Led by Dr Richard Kiely, I was involved in this research project which examined the learning experiences of international students on a Masters programme in the TESOL/Applied Linguistics field.
