Dr Sue Dymoke publishes new book to inspire young people to engage with poetry.

Dr Sue Dymoke of the University’s School of Education is to release her highly anticipated book, Making Poetry Happen: Transforming the Poetry Classroom, on Thursday 29 January 2015. The book, produced in collaboration with other highly regarded educational commentators, is expected to have a lasting impact on how poetry is taught in schools.

Dr Dymoke explained: "It aims to build young people and teachers' confidence in the genre by strengthening their relationship with poetry on page or screen, in mind or ear."

The book is a follow up to Making Poetry Matter: International Research on Poetry Pedagogy, a widely acknowledged must-read for any English teacher keen to invigorate their poetry class.

The books have excited the interest of journalists at The Nottingham Evening Post who have reported on how the books’ emphasis on innovative and creative poetry practice have enlivened lessons in a sixth form college. The article is to form part of Nottingham’s bid to become a UNESCO City of Literature.

To celebrate the release of the second book to come out of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Poetry Matters seminar series, the paperback and e-book version of the first book will be released alongside it.
