Supporting Teachers to Deliver the Practical Requirements of the New GCSEs

The new GCSEs have a very different set of requirements and expectation with regards to practical work and its assessment through the written exams. This session will give you opportunity to consider how you might be able to support teachers to deliver this component most effectively.

Practical Requirements

The session will: -

• Explain the exam board requirements with regards to practical work and Working Scientifically

• Analyse the style of the exam questions aimed at assessing students practical skills

• Consider what students would need to have experienced to be able to cope with these exam questions

• Analyse the compulsory practicals ("Required", "core", "PAGs") and consider how technicians can best support teacher to maximise student learning.

• Consider what changes might be necessary in Key Stage 3.
