Award and Graduation

Once the Doctoral College Office has received confirmation from your examiners that you have met the requirements for a degree and you have submitted your final thesis to the Library, you should receive a letter notifying you of your degree award.

Research degree awards are made following:

  • receipt of full joint report paperwork including pre-viva reports and chair's report (if appropriate)
  • receipt of confirmation that any required amendments have been satisfactorily completed
  • confirmation from the Library that the final hard bound copy of the thesis, final submission form and ethesis has been submitted to them.  The final thesis must be submitted to the Library before awards can be made.

You will be invited to attend the degree ceremony after your award has been made.

We hold two ceremonies each year:

  • Summer ceremony (usually held in July)
  • Winter ceremony (usually held in January)

We will email all potential graduates with full details of the graduation ceremony including how to register about six weeks before the ceremony takes place.

Further details can be found on the Graduation Website.

Certificates are issued at the degree ceremony.

If you are unable to attend your ceremony you will graduate in absentia and your certificate will be posted out two weeks after the ceremony takes place provided that ceremony registration has taken place.

Please note that it is not possible to amend the wording of the certificates or add additional information under any circumstances. It is also not possible to issue certificates before the ceremony has taken place.
