Official Publications

The British Library's unique collections of official materials occupy around 43 kilometres of shelving and include:

  • comprehensive collections of UK Government material from the 18th Century to the present day
  • a complete collection of United Nations, World Bank, and OECD documents from just after the Second World War
  • collections of US Government documents - in print, on microform, and in full-text online
  • historic and current collections of foreign national government publications

Social Policy and Social Welfare on the Web

The collections on social problems and social welfare are international in scope, covering most countries and languages. They offer a one-stop-shop for comparative research in the age of globalisation.

You can:

  • access research from Australia, New Zealand, France, and South Africa in the Informit, Cairn, and Sabinet collections of online journal articles
  • keep up to date with policy developments in the UK and internationally with the free monthly current awareness service Welfare Reform on the Web

Getting There

The British Library is closer than you think - London St Pancras International is just 70 minutes from Leicester with frequent trains throughout the day. The British Library itself is on Euston Road just five minutes from the station.
