Evening Career Events for PhDs

These events are provided for PhD students to learn about career opportunities in, and the realities of, a particular career sector.

Evening Career Events are two hour career events for PhD students, at the University of Leicester.  PhD students from any college can attend any Evening Career Event which is of interest to them.

Public Event

Each event focuses on a particular career sector.  Each speaker provides an outline of their individual career experience, a description of working in their area and hints and tips for aspirants and newcomers in terms of working in the field and the organisation.  In addition, there are exhibitions from employers and recruiters in the particular employment sector.

Enabling PhD students to have an appropriate vehicle for learning about career opportunities requires events of broad scope.  By utilising a number of events, as described, it is possible to provide insights and opportunities of the breadth and depth necessary.  The timing of the Evening Career Events also allows students to attend outside of time required for study, research and other activities.

The Evening Career Events are designed to accomplish this across a broad range of career sectors.  Whilst each event focuses on a particular college or department, students from other colleges are also welcome to attend.
Benefits centre around enabling PGRs to develop an understanding of the realities of a broad range of career options.  This empowers the making of an informed career choice.

Past Evening Career Events, which took place in the Autumn Term 2012, have focused on:

  • Marketing, Advertising, Market Research - December 4th, 2012;
  • Mathematics Plus - December 5th, 2012.
