Mathematics skills count!

Children’s early mathematics skills provide the building blocks for learning and are an important predictor of lifelong health, wealth and well-being. Children born very prematurely, before 32 weeks of pregnancy, are at high risk for developing mathematics difficulties later in life, which may hamper their attainment at school and their future life chances.

Here at the University of Leicester, we are developing a training programme for teachers to show them how to support premature children’s learning in the classroom so that every child has the best possible chance of achieving their full potential.
