Professor David G Lambert, Director

The Doctoral College is led by the Director, Professor David G Lambert.

The Director is a senior academic appointed to the post for three years who ensures that researchers remain at the heart of the University's research endeavour. The Director champions PGR, ECR and research staff interests on all major University committees including the University Senate, the Academic Policy Committee and the Research Strategy, Policy  and Performance Committee. Additionally, the Director chairs the Postgraduate Research Policy Committee. The Director, whose role incorporates that of Graduate Dean, is responsible for:

  • promoting strategies for recruiting high quality postgraduate research students and fellows 
  • ensuring that statutory, policy and funding body requirements in all aspects of postgraduate researchers/early career researchers are met
  • providing the environment to create the research leaders of the future 
  • develop and implement University policy on postgraduate research, linking it to overall institutional strategic aims.



Dave is a Professor of Anaesthetic Pharmacology. He trained as a biologist before completing his PhD in diabetes research. He made the post-doctoral switch to pharmacology at Leicester where he has spent his career to date researching opioids (analgesics), supervising research students and teaching at all levels.

Dave is the Grants Officer for the National Institute for Academic Anaesthesia. He has been awarded the Humphrey Davy medal, was elected  Chair of the Board of the British Journal of Anaesthesia and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
