Personal Details

Stephen graduated with a BA (Hons) in Criminology from Anglia Ruskin University. Following this, he successfully completed a MSc in Crime Science, at University College London. Stephen has spent the last 9 years working on countering and managing financial crime within a business and finance context. His career includes working as an analyst within financial services and consulting at a big four advisory firm. Latterly, he moved into the Fin-Tech and the payments space. He is also a member of the senior management team of a UK company, where he heads up the compliance function and is the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO). Stephen is also a Fellow of the International Compliance Association (ICA), which is an international body design to support compliance professionals.

PhD Research

Through working within the compliance and financial crime space within regulated financial services in the UK / EU, Stephen has gained knowledge and experience from a unique perspective that will benefit his academic research. This will allow his research to focus on specific challenges faced by the industry and compliance professionals. There is currently limited research in this field, which provides an opportunity for this research to contribute to existing knowledge, theory and may ultimately help inform the industry, practitioners and key stakeholders.

Stephen is supervised by Dr Matt Hopkins and Dr Claire Davis.
