Sue McAllister

Sue McAllister is the first woman to hold the position of Director General of the Northern IrelandSue McAllister Prison Service, a position she took up in July 2012.

Her first experience of the Northern Ireland Prison Service came when she sat on Tony Pearson's review of the death, in 2008, of prisoner Colin Bell, who was on suicide watch at the time.

Originally from south Yorkshire, Mrs McAllister graduated from St Andrew's University before joining the Civil Service. This was followed by 25 years experience in the prison service, including positions as governor of HMP Gartree and a young offenders centre. Prior to taking her current position she was Head of the Public Sector Bids Unit in the Ministry of Justice.

Mrs McAllister is married with two adult children.
