New Appointment: Visiting Professor

Jon CruddasThe Centre for Sustainable Work and Employment Futures is pleased to announce that Jon Cruddas has joined the research centre as a Visiting Professor.

Jon has been a Policy Officer with the UK Labour Party with specific responsibility for labour market policy, Chief Assistant to the General Secretary of the Labour Party and Deputy Political Secretary to the Prime Minister Tony Blair. Within his post as Deputy Political Secretary, Jon’s responsibilities included links between the Prime Minister and the trade union movement and issues of labour law and labour market reform. This included the introduction of the National Minimum Wage, the regulation of working time and the Fairness at Work legislation including the Employment Relations Act.

Jon has a keen interest in politics, labour history, economics and philosophy. He is the author of numerous lectures, articles and newspaper columns on these subjects and in 2011 he delivered the Clement Attlee Lecture Series at University College, Oxford.

Jon is the current Labour MP for Dagenham and Rainham.

We are delighted that Jon has joined the centre and look forward to working closely with him.
