Healthcare Assistants: Distributional Losses as a Consequence of NHS Modernisation?

A new article from Professor Ian Clark, Deputy Director of CSWEF, and Amanda Thompson, Head of the Department of HRM & Head of the Department of Corporate Development at De Montfort University has recently been published in the New Technology, Work and Employment journal.

Based on data obtained from 60 interviews with Healthcare Assistants, structured questionnaires, observation of Healthcare Assistants and interviews with non-clinical managers, Healthcare Assistants: Distributional Losses as a Consequence of NHS Modernisation? looks at the labour process of Healthcare Assistants at an NHS hospital trust in the context of the NHS's modernisation agenda. The article determines whether application of the modernisation agenda is formalised at the trust and considers how Healthcare Assistants are affected.
