IV International PhD Conference in Economics

The Division of Economics at the School of Business has successfully hosted the IV International PhD conference in Economics on 22 - 23 March 2018.

Conference Overview

The 4th International PhD Conference in Economics aimed to bring together PhD students from different fields offering a chance to present their research in front of a diverse audience. The conference targeted to assist young researchers to build a global professional network with peers and academics, through an amicable and intellectually stimulating environment.

Keynote Speaker

The Keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Toke Aidt, University of Cambridge on 22nd March, 2018. The title of his talk was “Conflict, Mass-mobilization and Political Expedience: Democratization in Autocracies.”


The two-day event was split into three sessions. Researchers received feedback from assigned discussants, along with a versatile audience, including many top academics from different fields. Each session was organised as follows in Autocracies.”

• Presentation: 30 minutes
• Discussion: 5 minutes
• Q&A: 10 minutes

The conference also gave the opportunity to PhD students to present their work in a Poster session on 23rd March, 2018.


The conference offered generous funding towards the cost of travel for the Presenters. Accommodation was covered by the University for all the presenters. There was also a social dinner on 22/03.
