Our role

Dr Peter Davis and others have conducted research dealing with problems of management and organisational development within the co-operative and mutual and social economy sectors. This has a special focus on Co-operative Management and Organisational Development. Peter also retains a research interest in the following closely related areas of academic research which often provide important contexts for Co-operative Organisational Development, namely, the market economy, the labour market, the domestic economy, the trade union movement and the application of Catholic Social Teaching, Theology and Comparative Religious Dialogue in these areas.

Our achievements

On the basis of our ongoing research programme a number of reports, papers and books on these subjects have been published. See Research and Publications for a statement of the foundational research and current research programmes and a full listing of publications.

The Unit has also pioneered and continues to conduct research into the development of teaching and learning strategies and materials for co-operative management using various forms of delivery.

Since our establishment we have conducted, presentations, seminars, workshops, short courses and research in the following countries: Argentina, Barbados, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic (for the World Council of Credit Unions) Ethiopia, Finland, Greece, Holland, Hong Kong, India, (for the International Co-operative Alliance), Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mongolia (for the UN), Namibia, Nepal, (for the Asian Confederation of Credit Unions) Netherlands Antilles, New Zealand, Philippines, (for the International Co-operative Alliance) Poland, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, (for the ILO) Tanzania, Thailand, Trinidad, United Kingdom, United States (for the UN), Uganda, Uruguay and Vietnam.

The IJCAM is a product of the merger of the Journal of Co-operative Accounting and Reporting (JCAR) with the International Journal of Co-operative Management (IJCM).
