Graduated as a Computer and Communications Engineer from the American University of Beirut in 2006, Mona Itani worked in multinational telecommunications companies for 4 years. After earning her Masters in Engineering Management degree, she moved into academia where she joined the Engineering Management programme at the American University of Beirut. She currently teaches engineering ethics and is working on several research projects related to engineering education and engineering management. She is currently pursuing her PhD degree in the University of Leicester’s School of Management.

As part of her doctoral thesis research, Mona will investigate women in entrepreneurship while emphasizing on middle-income women in Lebanon. The study aims to identify and explain the micro, macro, and meso factors that encourage/discourage this tier of women entrepreneurs to start their own businesses. Moreover, the study aims at investigating the reasons behind women entrepreneurship successes and failures and devise a framework of steps and processes that are likely to lead women to develop successful businesses.
