  • Member – Innovate UK and the ESRC established the group to explore new ways of working together.

Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors

  • Member of CIEHF (Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors).

Health Education East Midlands Human Factors Exchange

  • Inaugural member of East Midlands Human Factors Exchange, hosted by East Midlands Academic Health Science Network. Developed to strengthen the application of Human Factors in Healthcare in accordance with the NHS HF Concordat.

Association of Computing Machinery, special interest group: Computer Human Interaction

  • Member – 2004  -2014.

Achievements

  • REF2014 impact case denoted to be Outstanding (March 2015).
  • The European Commission Research Executive Agency deemed the Marie Skłodowska-Curie funded project to be successful and I, as a Marie Curie Fellow, was “commended for the high impact created by his research” (2014).
  • The KTP project report was graded the highest award of Outstanding by KTP and the TSB (now Innovate UK), (September 2013).
  • The KTP project partner organization Bulb Studios won the 2013 Leicester Mercury Business Awards Innovation category, notably naming the KTP partnership with the University of Leicester.
  • CrowdLab Ltd (developed as a result of the KTP with Bulb Studios) won the 2013 Market Research Society Awards for Best Innovation, and Technology Innovation & Effectiveness. They have subsequently won a series of awards across the Market Research Industry internationally.
  • The project that I lead was identified by the Commission on Education and Training for Patient Safety as an exemplary project as part of the Commission’s “Recommendation 12: Ensure staff have the skills to identify and manage potential risks”

Awards

  • Best paper award at Academy of Marketing conference 2019.
  • Won in 2016, an award from the Clinical Human Factors Group and the NHS LA (Litigation Authority) for integrating Human Factors/Ergonomics principles within healthcare. This was for the Safety Huddles project in collaboration with UHL NHS Trust (University Hospitals of Leicester).
  • Short-listed in 2016 for the National BMJ (British Medical Journal) Education Team of the Year Award for the EPIFFANY project.
  • Shortlisted in 2015 for the Patient Safety Award Education category for the EPIFFANY project.
  • Won in 2015 the Health Education England Chair’s Recognition Award for Research and Innovation.
  • Won in 2014, the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network Innovation Awards in the Frontline Innovation Award category for the EPIFFANY project.
