Personal details

Before taking up my current post in 2017, I worked at ULSB as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Marketing for four years. I have a PhD in Marketing, MA in English Language and Linguistics and a BA in Management with Marketing from the University of Leicester. I also formerly taught at the International Study Centre (now Navitas) in Leicester on the International Year One programme and ran the Management Studies film club. I am the co-author of ‘Fundamentals of Marketing 2e’ with Baines, Antonetti & Rosengren (Oxford University Press, 2020).

  • Principles of Marketing module leader (undergraduate year 1).
  • Consumption and the Creative Industries module leader (Masters).
  • Strategies for Creative Marketing and Innovation lecturer (Masters).
  • Academic Tutor for BA Marketing Year 1.
  • I have supervised over 75 projects to completion at MBA, Masters and undergraduate levels.

Previous seminar teaching:

  • Principles of Marketing (undergraduate and Masters).
  • Research Methods (Masters).
  • Survey Research (undergraduate year 3).
  • Analysing Quantitative Data for Management and Research (undergraduate year 3).
  • Consumer Research (undergraduate year 2).

I am broadly interested in marketing and consumption within the creative and cultural industries and generally work with qualitative methodologies. My PhD research, which I completed in 2019, focused on music covers as vehicles of nostalgia. Findings shed light on the role that different types of nostalgia play in indie pop consumers' experiences of music and recollections of the past.

I am currently working on research outputs derived from my thesis, which delve into:

  • Collective nostalgia experienced for a perceived ‘golden age’ of indie pop and recollections of a shared culture of analogue music.
  • Personal nostalgia for past moments bound to music which are unique to individual experiences, such as memories of childhood.

Past research has explored tensions between art and commerce, with a focus on indie musicians based in the UK. While studying for my Masters in English Language and Linguistics, I explored the use of language in marketing as well as constructions of fandom via a quantitative analysis of #fangirl and #fanboy on Twitter.

I am interested in supervising PhD projects in any of the following areas:

  • Marketing and consumption within the creative and cultural industries.
  • The marketing and consumption of music.
  • Nostalgia and its relationship with marketing and consumption practices.
  • Authenticity and its relationship with marketing and consumption practices.

If you have a research proposal which aligns with any of the above then please feel free to get in touch with me via email.
