Personal details

Before joining the University of Leicester in March 2018 I worked as an Assistant Professor of European Management at Chemnitz University of Technology, Germany, and as a guest lecturer at universities in Dresden, Zurich, Duisburg-Essen, Bernkastel-Kues and Regensburg. I have a degree from the University of Leipzig in Business Administration. Working at Chemnitz University of Technology and the University of Siegen, I completed my PhD in organisation studies in 2008 and my habilitation on critique, crisis and discourse in critical organisation studies in 2017.

My research projects are at the interface of organisations and society and are linked to the broad field of critical management studies. Interdisciplinarity, methodological reflexivity and a primary focus on methods of qualitative social research are characteristics of the research projects pursued in this context. My research interests cover a broad range of topics fitting into the following areas:

  • Participation and democracy in cooperatives and other forms of organisation
  • Discourse and organisation
  • Alternative forms of work and organisation
  • Critical management and organisation studies

With the help of a research grant from the Hans Boeckler Foundation in Germany we conducted a research project about participation in cooperatives between 2014 and 2017. This project focused on the exploration of different pattern of participation in German cooperatives of different size and sector. We both explored the role of participation as sense-making device for cooperatives and the everyday practices of participation in cooperatives.

I am interested in supervising students in the following areas:

  • Discourse and organisation
  • Participation and democracy in organisations
  • Alternative forms of organisations (e.g. coops, solidarity based economy, community supported agriculture)
  • Critical management studies
