Personal details

BSc, MSc, PhD (Leicester)

I joined the School of Management in 2012, having previously worked in the Centre for Labour Market Studies, Nottingham Trent University and as a Knowledge Exchange Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Leicester.

I am an interdisciplinary sociologist with an interest in critical management studies, political theory, economics, geography, and cultural studies.

I have a BSc in Sociology and MSc in Social Research from the University of Leicester, where I also received my PhD.

Administrative responsibilities

I am the module leader for Organisation of Work and Organisational Performance for the MSc in HRM. I also supervise students on the CLMS Doctorate Programme.

My interests are in cultural management and the role of private sector enterprise in identifying, sustaining, and creating cultural value.

I have held a number of research grants from the ESRC and AHRC on topics such as the future of higher education, heritage, and public engagement.

I am currently part of an AHRC collaborative research project on decision-making strategies in the heritage sector, entitled ‘How to make heritage decisions?’ This is in conjunction with colleagues from the University of Leeds, University of Glasgow, the Science Museum, HLF, and Leicester City Council.

I regularly contribute to the School of Management Blog and have written articles on Englishness and Heritage for the Institute of Historical Building Conservation’s journal ‘Context’.

I am interested in supervising PhD study in the following areas:

  • Cultural value research in the creative and cultural economy
  • Urban redevelopment and economic restructuring
  • Entrepreneurialism and regional development
  • Entrepreneurialism and Higher Education
