Personal details

I joined the School in May 2013 after previously working as a research assistant (Media Sociology) and lecturer (Information Management) for the University of Glasgow. Prior to working in Glasgow I completed doctoral research at the University of Leicester, studying the memorial culture emerging after the 2005 London bombings.

I lead core and elective undergraduate and postgraduate modules that deal with:

  • the philosophy of social science
  • critical theory
  • information systems management
  • digital economy

Administrative responsibilities

I am Director of Undergraduate Studies.

I am interested in memory, especially how emerging digital technologies are transforming how people store, connect and share memories. My research draws on continental philosophy as well as media and cultural studies to explore how memory and forgetting, in the 21st century, are socially organised and mediated. I am an editor of Memory Studies and ephemera: theory & politics in organisation.

I am currently supervising the following doctoral projects:

Maddalena Tacchetti - Made in Britain: A constructivist study of asylum seeker identity in institutional settings.

Brendon Wilkins - Digging the crowd: the future of archaeological research in the digital and collaborative economy.

I am available to supervise doctoral research on the following areas: Memory Studies; Media and Culture; Science and Technology.
