Biography

Helen was appointed Lecturer in Creative Marketing in the School of Management in 2014. She previously lectured in marketing at Nottingham Business School and worked as an Associate Tutor at the University of Leicester from 2009-2014. Helen is a Fashion Marketing graduate who worked in industry for several years in buying and design management, for retailers Next and Otto Versand, as well as for manufacturers supplying companies such as Marks and Spencer. She completed her MA in Education before becoming a University lecturer in 1997, teaching design and marketing curricula. She is currently an external examiner for fashion marketing at Regent’s University, London and she has also performed this role for the University of Hertfordshire and Manchester Metropolitan University. Helen is a member of the Fashion Bridge team, a Berlin-based organisation promoting fashion education.

Research Interests

Organisational and consumer buying behaviour, product development and sustainability, particularly in relation to the fashion and textiles industry. Helen’s experience in industry led to her aim to investigate contemporary practice and processes within the fashion business, a relatively neglected area of research, despite its significant contribution to the UK economy. She is currently working as part of a research team for a project on clothing and longevity, funded by Defra. She is also a member of the organising committee for an ESRC seminar series ‘Ethics in Consumption: Interdisciplinary Perspectives’ which runs from 2015-2017. Helen is an Associate Director of the International Colloquium on Design, Branding and Marketing (ICDBM).

PhD Supervision

Helen is interested in supervising PhD topics that reflect her research interests. She is currently a supervisor for Sule Koran.

Teaching

Helen is module leader for Business-to-Business Marketing and Supply Chain Management, Product Policy and Innovation and Principles and Practices of Marketing on our MSc programmes. She is also a dissertation supervisor.
