Personal details

I gained my Undergraduate and Postgraduate qualifications from the University of Leicester and I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I joined the University of Leicester in 1994 and specialise in the area of Work and Gender. During my time at the University of Leicester I have held a wide range of post including - Director of Learning and Teaching at the Centre For Labour Market Studies (2007 - 2011); Deputy Director Learning and Teaching at the School of Management (2012 - 2013); and Director of Learning and Teaching at the School of Management (2013 - February 2014).

Research

I have three main research interests. The first research interest initially developed out of my MSc Postgraduate thesis that examined issues surrounding the relationship of National Culture and studying via Distance Learning. More recently, my research interests have touched on the subject of High Performance Work Practices and issues of work intensification. However, my most current research interest stems from my PhD, which examines the lives of Women Breadwinners. This particular piece of research involves undertaking a qualitative research approach that explores how Women Breadwinners manage the competing demands of both their work and home commitments. The study starts by examining the historical developments of Breadwinning with issues surrounding the decline of the Male Breadwinner model. It also looks at issues in relation to 'Work' and the pressures women face in succeeding in the workplace.
