The Leicester Business Festival (LBF) is taking place 29 October - 9 November and features a series of events hosted by organisations based in Leicester and Leicestershire. University of Leicester School of Business (ULSB) staff, together with the Leicester Innovation Hub, are delivering three workshops which are free to attend and open to businesses, students, alumni and staff.

LBF is an annual, two-week festival incorporating hundreds of free business events – staged by local organisations and which all take place in Leicester and Leicestershire. It was the first two-week business festival ever to be run in the UK and, in its fourth year, it is now a firm feature in the local business calendar.

Each year, the Festival sees over 100 events attended by over 10,000 people and it is easily the largest business event in the region. LBF aims to drive economic growth across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland for the benefit of all who live, do business and work there.

Open Innovation with Dr Marta Gasparin, Lecturer in Design and Innovation Management at ULSB, on Monday 29 October (2-4pm) presents the concept of open innovation, the background, what it is, what are its elements, how it differs from other types of innovation approaches, and how managers could think about using it to improve their innovation and product development processes.

It is an event for managers involved in product and/or service development and those generally interested in innovation and in developing ideas and concepts to increase their capabilities for innovation.

Marta will be joined by John K. Christiansen, Professor of Management of Innovation, Product Development and Project Management at Copenhagen Business School. Book here.

Women Entrepreneurs and Innovation Challenges with Dr Sukanlaya Sawang, Associate Professor in Small Business Innovation and Wellbeing at ULSB on Wednesday 31 October (10.30am-12.30pm) provides a networking opportunity to tackle innovation challenges faced by women entrepreneurs as well as to learn the design think approach to boost innovation for business women.

In the past, entrepreneurial opportunities were rare for women and men dominated the game, but it has been changing. The number of women entrepreneurs is on the rise, more women are becoming interested in small business ownership and/or actually starting up in business. Women entrepreneurs are facing a number of challenges, especially an opportunity to innovate.

The workshop will also help Leicestershire based female entrepreneurs to network and share issues relating to innovation and change within their organisation. Men are also welcome at this event. Book here.

Visual Management with Dr Nicola Bateman, Associate Professor in Operations Management, on Friday 2 November (2-4pm) showcases the latest thinking of how to use visual tools to enhance organisational decision-making, especially at the operational level. These innovative approaches allow teams to better enact strategic direction. Come along to see how they can change your business for the better. Examples include communication boards, Scrum boards, kanaban boards, KPI boards, project boards etc. Delegates are encouraged to bring photos of their own visual tools for discussion. Book here.
