School is awarded Commonwealth Scholarships

The University of Leicester School of Business are pleased to have been awarded five scholarships for our MSc Risk, Crisis and Disaster Management distance learning programme.

Commonwealth distance learning scholarships are offered for individuals to study for a UK Masters degree while remaining in their home country. The scheme is administered through the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC).  The scholarships are for students starting the MSc Risk Crisis and Disaster Management programme in Octboer 2020.

The scholarship covers:

  • course fees;
  • attendance at the School of Business Leicester Masterclass in August 2021;
  • a research writing workshop at the University of Leicester;
  • and, an additional grant to cover the purchase of a laptop.


To apply for this scholarship you must:

  • be a citizen of, or be granted refugee status from, an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person
  • be permanently and continually resident in an eligible Commonwealth country
  • hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) standard. (A lower qualification and sufficient relevant experience may be considered in certain cases.)

Additionally, in order to apply for the Commonwealth Scholarship you will need to apply to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission via the Commonwealth Scholarships webpage by 4 May 2020.

Personal statement

In your personal statement (completed as part of the application form) please include your response to the following:

  • Demonstrate a career commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals and Sendai Framework
  • Explain why you have chosen the University of Leicester and this particular course
  • Explain what are your ambitions for the future and how the Commonwealth Scholarship would help you to achieve these ambitions

After applying

Once we have received your completed application for your course (with all supporting documents) we will aim to contact you regarding your application within five working days. if we make you an offer, that will be for the course, not for the scholarship.

All candidates must hold an unconditional offer to study for the relevant course. The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission will make decisions on the proposed candidates during June 2020 and we will advise successful candidates in July 2020.
