Interdisciplinary Symposium: “Migration, Memory and the Visual Arts”
Please note that this event has been postponed until 2020/21 due to Covid-19. The School of Arts and the Stanley Burton Centre for Holocaust and Genocide Studies are organising an interdisciplinary symposium on “Migration, Memory and the Visual Arts: Second-Generation Jewish Artists in the UK”, taking place on 22 May 2020. The call for papers is open until 23 February 2020.

Victorian Studies Public Lecture
We are delighted to confirm that Professor John Bowen will be coming to the Victorian Studies Centre at Leicester on 20 November to give this year's Victorian Studies Public Lecture. His theme is 'Dickens, "Madness" and Marriage'. The lecture is based on his recent discovery, in previously unseen letters, that Dickens tried to have his wife placed in a mental asylum. The event will take place at around 5.15pm (details TBC). It is free and open to all. Please put this date in your diaries!
TEAP Sanctuary Scholarship
The English Language Teaching Unit at the University of Leicester is glad to announce we are offering a Sanctuary Scholarship to refugee and asylum seeker students who would like to obtain a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching English for Academic Purposes (PG Cert. TEAP). This is a Distance Learning programme that will provide you with the core competencies required for the design and delivery of effective teaching programmes in English for Academic Purposes (EAP), while furthering your knowledge across the range of key concepts and issues related to teaching EAP.
New Cooperation Agreement with Wallonie-Bruxelles International
The School of Arts is delighted to have established a Cooperation Agreement with Wallonie-Bruxelles International (WBI) to host Simon Lambert as Academic and Cultural Liaison Officer for the UK. In this new role Simon Lambert will work towards creating and enhancing academic and cultural partnerships between the UK and French-speaking Belgium, both at the level of the School and the University and across the UK. The new agreement builds on the School’s prior successful links with Wallonie-Bruxelles International and will initially run for a period of two years.

Decolonising the Vikings: The Midlands Viking Symposium 2019
The Midlands Viking Symposium 2019 took place on Saturday the 27th of April at the University of Leicester, and was a great success. An annual event pitched at the interested public, the Symposium presents the latest Viking research by Midlands-based researchers, and rotates between the Universities of Leicester, Nottingham, and Birmingham.
