Following the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, the limited opportunities for women in Hollywood have come under the spotlight. Despite this recent media attention there remains little focus in popular, or academic work, on women who have had success, as filmmakers, within the industry.

This session will introduce those women directors who have made over $100 million with a single movies at the US domestic box office, making the case for why these women deserve a place in Hollywood histories and academic scholarship, and highlighting the way in which the industry has limited their opportunities and success.
